How to control landslide

• žWe must go back to the basics of integrate ecosystem management.
• žEcosystem can be divided into four main component s geosfera (soil,rock,contours),hydrosfera(sea,rivers,
• žLakes,steams,ground water),atmospere(air) and biosphere(animal and plants).
• žIn Technical terms,we have 4 choice;

žexperience to rehabilitate the former landfill and waste.

Comprehensive method of restoring the ecosystem,but not to the entire  region.It only  involves high risk areas such as landslides,groundwater,flow and basin area.

To restore an ecosystem as a whole to change the  landscape,contour and function of the area.

Types of landslide

žThe materials may move by folling ,topping,sliding,speading or flowing.

ž can be differentiated by the kinds of material involved and the mode of movement.

žAltought landslide are primarily associated with mountainous regions,they can also occur in areas of generally  low relief.

žIn low relief areas, landslide  occur  as  cut-and-fill failure s (roadway  and  building  excavations),river bluff failures,lateral  spreading  landslide, collapse of  mine-waste piles(especially coal)

žAnd a wide variety of slope failures  associated with quarries and open-pit mines.

Causes of landslide

•Groundwater(porewater) pressure acting to destabilitize the slope.

•Loss or absence of vertical vegetative structure, soil nutrients, and soil structure

•Erosion of the toe of a slope by rivers or ocean waves.

•Weaking of a slope through saturation by anowmelt, glaciers melting, or heavy rains

•Earthquakes ading loads to barely stable slope.

•Earthquake-caused liquefaction destabilizing slopes

•Volcanis eruptions.

žEarthwork which alters the shape of a slope, or which impases new loads on an existing slope.

žIn shallow soils, the removal of deep-rooted vegetation that bings colluvium to bedrock

žConstruction, agricultural or forestry activities (logging) which change the amount of water which infiltrates the soil.

Measure to address landslide

žLandslide are masses of rock,earth,or  deebris that flow down a clope due to gravity.Landslide usually occur in a unstable soilearth or rocky conditions.

žLandslide may be very small or large and can move at a very high speed.

žIt happens after heavy rainfall or rapid snowmelt or with external sources such as strong wind.

žMudflows are rapid movement of large masses of rock,soil and /or other debris saturated with water.

žHeavy rainfall,snowmelt or high levels of ground water flowing through cracked bedrock may a movement of soil or sediments.

Effect of landslide

žFill failurer in some areas damaged hundreds of homes and other buildings.

žThe landslide features are subtle and the damaged patterns complex.

Landslides impeded traffic flow that was diverted onto secondary highways as a result of the callapsed interchange
